Let's dive into the accessibility experience at Universal Studios in Florida. My family and I

recently visited both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios, and knowing I'd be using an electric convenience vehicle (ECV), I made sure to plan ahead by signing up for accommodations through IBCCES, a partner of Universal Studios.

It's crucial to register in advance and speak with guest services before arrival. Many guests we encountered were unaware of this process and had to register while in line, slowing down the process and cutting into park time. So, if you're facing mobility challenges, my advice is to plan ahead.

Regarding parking, Universal Studios has large parking decks that you'll navigate through CityWalk to access the parks. While they provide wheelchairs in handicapped parking areas, it's essential to note that the trip from the parking lot to the parks can be quite long. If you're renting equipment at the park, be prepared for this journey.

Once inside the parks, your first stop should be guest services. It's essential to understand that the access card (IAC) doesn't automatically grant accommodations for mobility disabilities alone. In my case, having additional circumstances that made standing or sitting in lines for long periods difficult helped me secure accommodations, but for those solely needing a wheelchair, waiting in line is often expected.

Lines for accommodations can be lengthy, especially during busy times like the day after Easter. We stood in line for access for about 45 minutes. Thankfully, I had rented my ECV in advance, sparing me from standing in line. However, I can imagine how challenging it could be for someone without that foresight.

For rides, most require transfers. For example, using my ECV, I had to transfer into a standard wheelchair before entering the line que. Once at the front of the line, I then had to leave the provided wheelchair behind and walk to the ride vehicle. Staff were generally helpful, but navigating this process alone could be challenging, especially considering the distance between wheelchair parking and ride entrances.

As for staff attitude and attentiveness, I had nothing but positive experiences. Everyone was kind and helpful, and I didn't feel judged or looked down upon for my mobility challenges. Universal Studios' efforts in accommodating guests with disabilities were evident throughout my visit, despite a few rides being inaccessible without the ability to transfer.

In conclusion, while there are challenges and a couple of rides may be inaccessible, Universal Studios overall does an excellent job of accommodating individuals with mobility issues. Planning ahead and understanding the process are key to ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience at the park.
